Custom Ordered Axles
Custom Ordered Axles
At Highway Trailer Company, we offer custom ordered axles built to match your exact trailer specifications. There are many different weight ratings and suspension measurements that need to be correct to make the axle fit your trailer, and getting these details right is critical for safe towing, proper alignment, and long-term durability.

How to Measure a Spring (Leaf) Axle
To properly measure a spring axle:
- Hub Face to Hub Face: Measure from the flat face of one hub to the flat face of the other hub (where the wheel mounts).
- Spring Center to Spring Center: Measure the distance between the center points of the leaf spring mounting seats.
- Overall Length: Sometimes required for cross-checking fitment.
Be sure the trailer is safely supported and unloaded when taking measurements for accuracy.
How to Measure a Torsion Axle
Torsion axles are measured differently than spring axles:
- Hub Face to Hub Face: Measure wheel mounting face to wheel mounting face.
- Bracket Mounting Dimensions: Measure the spacing and orientation of the mounting brackets welded or bolted to the trailer frame.
- Arm Angle / Drop or Rise: Note the arm position (straight, up, or down) as it affects ride height and clearance.
Because torsion axles are not interchangeable by simple length alone, correct bracket and arm orientation is essential.
How to Determine Axle Weight Rating
Your axle weight rating (GAWR) is determined by several factors:
- Trailer manufacturer specifications (if available)
- Existing axle tag or stamping on the tube
- Hub and bearing size
- Leaf spring width or torsion arm capacity
- Tire load rating (always consider the weakest component in the system)
If the axle tag is missing or unreadable, we can help you identify the correct rating by inspecting your current setup.
